Indigenous languages have long been endangered by a combination of urbanization and modernization, as well as past governmental policies of removal, relocation, and termination of indigenous populations. However, recent years have seen a renewed interest in reclaiming and preserving indigenous knowledge, including native languages. The use of technology can help with language preservation and revitalization, but such programs must also be sensitive to issues of ownership of and access to cultural knowledge.

I've had to adjust what I want to do at times, though I've also considered the possibility of writing little web services myself to do what I want.

Since I first heard about the OCLC Software Contest, I knew that I wanted to come up with an entry. The first problem I encountered was coming up with a good idea, but an OPAC Blog Posts List provided a great resource for finding out about library technology issues. I'm hoping that the plug-in I create will alleviate some of the problems, if just a little, and make library catalogs more useful to patrons.
