Cool Tools: Feed43

One of the last assignments I did for (you guessed it!) LIBR 246 was a podcast and screencast about a cool tool for Library 2.0. Feed43 is a free, web-based tool for converting web pages to RSS feeds or customizing existing RSS feeds. It can be used to “scrape” a web page into RSS or to transform an existing feed into a new feed. It allows many options for control and customization, providing the opportunity to create new and interesting RSS feeds for your library.

My podcast describes the features of Feed43 and how it might be used by libraries.

My screencast shows how to use Feed3 to customize an RSS feed to search a library’s catalog for an item in the feed. Using a feed from Amazon, it provides instructions for creating an item search pattern and using the extracted information from that pattern to customize the feed with a link to search a library’s catalog. Check out the feed created during the screencast.

Feed43 was something that I came across when we were doing an earlier project, and I had a lot of fun tinkering with it and figuring out how to do something neat. I hope my podcast and screencast will encourage you to try it out.
