Flex Your Info is a site about showing off information. There is a lot of information out there, but it’s often presented in a way that isn’t usable. The goal of Flex Your Info is to think about how information can be better presented, so that it can be more easily accessed and used.
This blog was inspired by my interest in technology and information. As a software engineer, I love to tinker with technology and learn about new ways of doing things, and also discover new ways to use technology to address problems. As an information scientist, I want information to be accessible and usable.
This blog was spurred on by a class I took in my final semester at San Jose State University’s School of Library and Information Science. The class, Web 2.0 and Social Networking Tools, explored the ways in which new technologies can be used by libraries. Since libraries are in the business of providing information, one way to improve library services is to make information more easily accessible. One method for accomplishing this is through the use of rich internet applications, so that will also be a focus of this blog, primarily through the use of Adobe Flex.
Flex Your Info will be a place for me to explore how rich internet applications can be used to make information not just more easily accessible, but also more interesting and easier to use.
