SJSU-AILA Grant

The American Indian Library Association is partnering with San Jose School of Library and Information Science to apply for an IMLS grant to provide scholarships for American Indians and Alaska Native students to earn an MLIS.  The federal grant funding would allow SLIS to offer scholarships, mentoring, and other support for American Indians and Alaska Natives as they earn a fully accredited, fully online MLIS degree.  SLIS currently serves hundreds of MLIS graduate students, who plan to work in libraries and other types of information centers after graduation, including public libraries, academic libraries, and K-12 school libraries.  Input received via the online survey will help us with a needs assessment for the grant proposal.

To support the grant application, the School of Library and Information Science at San Jose State University has made available a brief, confidential online survey regarding how to best meet the needs of American Indians and Alaska Natives who may wish to pursue a fully online Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree. We are seeking input from American Indians and Alaska Natives, as well as from individuals interested in serving these communities.

We value your input regarding how to reach out to American Indians and Alaska Natives who may be considering graduate school, as well as input regarding the types of support that will help these individuals stay in school and complete an MLIS degree.  We invite you to forward this information to other individuals who may be interested in our project.
